Omega students rally for a pollution-free environment
Over 150 students of Lalaji Memorial Omega International School, Kolapakkam took it upon them to spread awareness about the ill-effects of burning articles for Bhogi, around the neighbouring communities of Kolapakkam and Gerugumbakkam on 6th Jan 2018. This is an initiative as a part of Omega students’ participation in the United Nations Student Leadership Conference on Development 2018 program. In line with the debate topic of the year on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Goals, the students have embraced the activity of reaching out to the people of the communities, to make them aware of the serious environmental hazards due to this festival during Pongal.
The rally flagged off from the school campus from where the enthusiastic students walked around the community announcing slogans, holding placards and handing out informative pamphlets to the residents. At the bustling centres of Kolapakkam MGR Statue Junction and Gerugumbakkam Bus Stand the students performed a street-play, enacting the problems that may engulf our society due to the inhalation of polluted air and associated diseases. The entire activity was well received and it was heartening to see the residents observe and take note of the sensitive message being voiced by the young students of Omega International School.
